Philemon Movement
Greeting and Thanksgiving
Philemon opens by widening the appeal beyond a private exchange. Paul writes as a prisoner of Christ Jesus, names Timothy, Philemon, Apphia, Archippus, and the church in Philemon’s house, then grounds the letter in grace, peace, thanksgiving, prayer, faith, love, partnership, and the refreshment of the saints. Before Onesimus is named, Paul establishes the moral platform: Philemon is already known as one whose faith in Christ produces love toward believers.
