Matthew Movement

1 — Origins and Preparation

Matthew opens by anchoring Jesus in covenant memory: son of David, son of Abraham, born by divine initiative, threatened by Herod, preserved through Egypt, and framed by Scripture. John the Baptist announces the nearness of the kingdom, Jesus is baptized and affirmed as the beloved Son, tested in the wilderness as the faithful Son, and begins public proclamation in Galilee. The movement moves from lineage and fulfillment to kingdom announcement, disciples called, and light dawning in Galilee.
