Mark Movement

— Preparation and Early Ministry

Mark opens at speed: the Gospel begins in the wilderness with John’s preparatory voice, Jesus appears at the Jordan, the heavens are torn open, the Spirit drives him into testing, and public proclamation begins after John’s imprisonment. Jesus announces the fulfilled time and nearness of the kingdom, calls the first disciples, teaches with authority, silences unclean spirits, heals in synagogue and home, withdraws in prayer, expands the mission, cleanses a leper, and immediately confronts the cost of publicity and misunderstood obedience.
